Licata Brothers: Bio

The youthful but well-travelled Licata Brothers (Jimmy and Tony), an inspirational rock duo from Arcadia since 2010, are joining us to share some of their music.

Just back from a tour earlier this year of the West Coast and England and Ireland, they perform regularly in the local area.

You can also catch their music on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon as well as several recent music video highlighting their original works through YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and at www.TheLicataBrothers.com.

The Nextdoors are Mika Larson and Russell Mark, a wife and husband duo out of East Pasadena CA, and were awarded “Best Musical Act” of 2024 by Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo. Their Americana stylings and unique cello-infused sound have earned them radio play across the USA and Canada, and charting songs like their debut single “Awaken” which hit #1 at WBSD radio, and features a music video shot in and around the Pasadena area.

They founded Pasadena Neighbor Day, an annual event drawing capacity crowds to Wild Parrot Brewing Co, and have played many SGV venues including Old Towne Pub, U Street Pizza, FoundrSpace, and more – with upcoming shows at Monopole Wine, Taste of South Pasadena Festival, and Children of One World fundraiser in Altadena.

About that gig, Russell Mark of the Nextdoors says: “When we met Azita Milanian, heard about her organization, and read more online about her background and history, we wanted to get involved.

“We are very happy and excited to volunteer our time to perform at her annual Gala event and help draw attention to her cause – and have a lot of fun doing it. Music, dance, great food and drinks – we’re honored to be a part of it.

“We hope to give back even more by donating 20% of our performance fee for any gigs we are hired for in the future that stem from this event.

“Please join us in supporting Children of One Planet on June 1.”

“The Nextdoors are one of the true gems of our city”
– Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo

It’s no surprise that the songs and voice of Russell Mark and the cello of Mika Larson sound like a perfect match for each other, and that their live shows are such freewheeling and fun affairs. After all, The Nextdoors have been playing music together since the moment they met, when sat down next to each other at a songwriting party hosted by a mutual friend, film composer Rolfe Kent.

They played together in various bands, projects, and configurations over their years of dating, and even played a set together on stage together at their own wedding in 2018.

But when 2020 sidelined their other musical projects, they decided the time was right to do something they’d wanted to for some time – to form their own band.

Their debut album Linda Vista was released in April 2022, and it quickly received radio play on Americana and NPR radio stations across the USA. In fact, 7 of the 8 songs on the record have received radio play, led by their Petty-inspired album opener “Awaken” (#1 most-spun song at 89.1 WBSD-FM, week of Feb 20 2023), and the only cover tune on the record – their interpretation of the Kinks classic “Strangers” (#3 most-played song of the year at WBSD.)

Their first public show was Jan 15 2023, at an event they created called “Neighbor Day” - and boosted by a cover story in the Pasadena Weekly, they played to a capacity crowd at Pasadena’s Wild Parrot Brewing Company, with introduction by Mayor Victor Gordo – and a City of Pasadena certificate declaring Jan 15 as the official “Pasadena Neighbor Day”.

The Neighbor Day show in 2024 brought out another sold-out crowd, and Mayor Gordo awarding the band as “Pasadena Musical Act of 2024.”

The have played shows in New York City and toured through the Midwest in spring 2023, including charitable performances and fundraisers, public shows, and even a special co-headline set with Minneapolis’s super-up-and-coming punk band Loki’s Folly.

Their music video for “Awaken” dropped on YouTube in October – shot all around Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley area, it has garnered over 70,000 views so far.

They’ve made recent appearances on the Crown City Podcast and the Tom Petty Project podcast, and their early 2024 plans include a set at Taste of South Pasadena festival, a brand-new single, and a new video, all coming soon.

About their live concerts, they explain: “we want our shows to feel like a neighborhood block party – all are welcome, drop-in guests are to be expected, and people leave with a smile on their faces.” Their choice of house concerts, local breweries, and coffee houses as their venues of choice, vs typical Hollywood clubs, reflect that vibe.

Russell Mark, hailing from Tucson AZ, is a music producer, educator, and composer, and is a member of the infamous L.A. classic rock satire band The Title Trackers. Mika Larson, originally from Minneapolis MN, is a classically-trained cellist who played electric cello in the seminal NYC rock band Channeling Owen. They live in East Pasadena with their cat Bailey, and recorded their entire album at their home studio. Learn more and connect at the links below.
