Answer (1 of 9): My old 1950 Chevy had a button in the door handle. I believe most cars had such buttons into the 1970s. Pressing the button with your thumb unlatched the door, and then pulling on the rigid handle opened the door, however, if the door was locked, it wouldn’t unlatch. I think some
